The BA Learning and Teaching with SEND is a part-time programme for those working or volunteering in training, tutoring or support roles in schools, specialist units, post-16 learning, Higher Education, the voluntary sector, libraries and a variety of other contexts.
The programme is designed to be completed in four years and is aimed at those working with learners, including learners with SEND, who wish to develop their understanding and expertise and thereby enhance their career opportunities.
The BA combines the development of specialist knowledge through optional modules (for example on Dyslexia, Autism, Coaching and Mentoring or Leadership) with core modules on learning and development, practice knowledge and skills and broader issues in education, and includes professional practice-based modules which enable you to reflect on the application of academic theory, research and policy developments to workplace settings. The final year research project offers you the opportunity to research a particular area of interest.
The course modules focus on linking theory and practice and taught sessions promote discussion of individual professional experiences linked to the focus topic, with assessments enabling more in-depth analysis.
Teaching is in relatively small groups, enabling you to actively engage in sessions and benefit from a supportive learning environment. Members of the Lifelong Learning Centre staff team are dedicated to helping you with all aspects of your progress to make the most of your time at University.
