This module will enable you to identify, develop and reflect upon your academic and digital skills within the context of your programme of study. You will develop digital skills to realise specific outcomes and confidence in engaging with different digital platforms. You will be provided with opportunities to share understandings, perspectives and experiences of different disciplinary frameworks with those who have different professional backgrounds.
The objectives of the module are to:
1. Develop academic and digital literacies for study and professional development within disciplinary contexts
2. Develop a reflective and confident approach to learning
3. Introduce the principles of self-direction and lifelong learning
On successful completion of the module, students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Identify the relevance and reliability of sources for academic and professional research.
2. Critically analyse sources for academic research.
3. Apply academic writing and subject-specific conventions within written work.
4. Apply reflection to ongoing development of academic and digital skills at undergraduate level.
5. Identify strategies to build personal confidence and self-direction in relation to academic study.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
1. Reflective writing: to consider personal and academic learning and growth.
2. Critical thinking: analysing sources and digital tools/ platforms to consider their relevance and quality.
3. Visual methods of communication: demonstrating knowledge and understanding.
4. Academic writing: ability to write in a clear, concise, focused and structured manner that is supported by relevant evidence.
5. Referencing: The ability to know when, why and how to acknowledge someone else's work or ideas.

There will be ongoing monitoring of student progress throughout the module and tutors will be available via email and TEAMS. There will also be tutorials to monitor progress and formative feedback will be provided for tasks.
