LLLC3952 Researching the Learning and Teaching Sector LLLC2302 Research methods for Business LLLC3956 Child and Family Studies: Research Methods
This module is not approved as a discovery module
This module will support you in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to undertake a research or capstones project within the context of your programme of study. You will also develop an understanding of the ethical requirements for independent research.
The objectives of the module are to:
1- Demonstrate knowledge of ethical principles in context
2- Identify how to make appropriate use of relevant research literature in context
3- Develop an understanding of research methodologies and methods in context
4- Gain insight into data collection methods and analysis in context.
5- Develop an understanding of different research approaches including academic dissertations and capstone projects
The learning activities in this module will adopt an experiential approach to teaching research methods, which will allow students to work collaboratively with their peers from different programmes. This will also help facilitate learning in their own context.
On successful completion of the module, students will be able to (within context):
1- Explain principles of key methodological approaches appropriate for their own context.
2- Critically analyse data collection and data analysis approaches as they relate to their own context.
3- Discuss the ethical issues and potential risks associated with undertaking a research project.
4- Demonstrate an awareness of research strategy and design through the production of a feasible research proposal, research question(s) and/or hypotheses.
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
1- Conduct a thorough review of existing literature on a specific topic (Work ready, Digital).
2- Critically analyse existing research, identify gaps, and propose meaningful research questions (Academic, Digital).
3- Present ideas clearly and coherently in writing (Work ready).
4- Critical consideration of ethical issues related to different research approaches and methods (Academic).
5- Make informed decisions about appropriate methodologies, sampling, data collection and analysis methods (Academic, Work ready).
6- Identify the elements of successful project management of own research (Work ready).
7- Consider how to work to a pre-designed research brief (Work ready)
