Programme specification
The PG Certificate in Musculoskeletal (MSK) Ultrasound is a clinically focused postgraduate programme designed for registered healthcare professionals seeking to develop competence in diagnostic MSK ultrasound. The programme integrates foundational anatomical knowledge, ultrasound physics, image acquisition, pathology recognition, structured reporting, and reflective clinical practice.
Students complete two 30-creditmodules: MSK Ultrasound Anatomy and Fundamentals; and Recognition and Clinical Application of MSK Pathology, Reporting and Logbook. Teaching is delivered through a hybrid model combining online learning with intensive on‑campus weekend blocks (12 days in total), including cadaveric anatomy labs, hands‑on ultrasound practice and case‑based clinical discussions. To complete the programme, students undertake supervised ultrasound practice within their clinical setting and compile a verified 250‑case logbook.
Graduates will be able to obtain and optimise MSK ultrasound images, recognise normal anatomy and common pathology, produce structured reports and practise safely within relevant legal, ethical and professional frameworks.
