This programme is designed to develop the language skills, knowledge and understanding required for postgraduate study in the discipline of Law. You will study subject specific content to help you develop your academic language, literacies and skills to a level that will enable you to communicate competently and confidently on your chosen postgraduate programme.
The programme is comprised of two modules. The first four weeks of the programme introduces you to the culture and context of postgraduate academic life in the broad fields of the Social Sciences and Arts in a UK university context. You start to develop your ability to plan and organise academic work and to communicate with others in an academic context.
The subsequent 6-week module has been developed in collaboration with academics from the School of Law. Language learning is integrated and built around key content areas, allowing you to develop a deeper understanding of how knowledge is communicated in your own subject area.
This programme is for students who do not meet the English language requirements for their chosen postgraduate programme, as well as those who wish to gain a better understanding of the academic language and literacy practices in their area of study.
