Module summary

This module is an English language content-based pre-sessional designed to support students who either do not meet the English language requirements for their chosen post-graduate programme or who wish to gain a better understanding of the academic language and literacy practices in the fields of Social Science and Arts.

Objectives

The aim of the Language for Social Science and Arts module is to help you work towards meeting the language requirements of your chosen academic programme. The module develops your linguistic and literacy skills which in turn enables you to improve your communicative ability in an academic context. The module aims to develop your awareness and understanding of the culture, context and discourse of academic study and ethical academic practices in your discipline. This increased awareness and understanding in turn aims to enhance your learning both during and beyond the module by contributing to your ongoing development as autonomous and reflective learners.

The lessons and tasks on this module will provide you with feedback and evidence to use in the following 6-week module of your programme, where you will have summative assessments.
