Culture and creativity play a fundamental role in the development of individuals, societies, and economies worldwide. On this course you will examine the contested concepts of culture and creativity, and how policy makers, cultural organisations, and creative entrepreneurs are operating in contemporary cultures and economies on a global scale.
You will explore how organisations across the cultural and creative industries, including the arts, media and heritage sectors, work in theory and practice, as well as the impact they can have on individuals and communities. You will have the opportunity to investigate how creative and cultural organisations use digital platforms, and the role of policymakers in promoting and regulating their activity.
By studying a range of enterprises and organisations across different global territories you will critically explore how different practices are applied to produce new creative ventures and help cultural organisations to adapt to changes in technologies and consumer markets.
Working collaboratively on an entrepreneurial project, you will have the opportunity to develop your own creative ideas, gaining insight into essential entrepreneurship skills and activities.
You will also devise and carry out an independent research project into an aspect of culture, creativity and/or entrepreneurship.
Throughout you will learn from academics, including leading researchers, and gain industry insights. With their support, you will have the freedom to investigate areas of personal or professional interest, with many assessments designed to allow you to choose your own focus.
This course is rooted in cultural theory and analysis of the contemporary cultural and creative industries. It is designed for those who wish to further develop a critically informed approach to understanding professional development issues in relationship to creative entrepreneurship and enhance their career prospects by gaining breadth of insight and in-depth specialist knowledge from academic inquiry.
