In this module, you will critically explore the range of business models found in global cultural and creative sectors. You will develop an understanding of business modelling processes and their application to real-world situations by researching creative ventures and cultural institutions. You will explore the key people who lead and manage these businesses, the strategic considerations and structural elements that are needed for these organisations to operate effectively, responding to changes in technology and consumer markets. You will examine essential industry practices that aim to generate meaningful experiences, create aesthetic objects with cultural value and social impact, and produce economic returns for organisations.
On completion of this module, through lectures and seminars, you will have developed an understanding of business development and enterprise activity undertaken by cultural and creative organisations and entrepreneurs.
Your assessments will allow you to identify and evaluate these business models, providing examples of significant strategies and process that can be applied in different contexts, such as your own entrepreneurialism, in managing businesses or in providing consultancy services.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Evaluate a range of value creation and business development activities across cultural and creative organisations.
2. Critically analyse different examples of business models and entrepreneurship across international contexts.
3. Critically reflect upon significant structural elements and operational strategies applied by practitioners and organisations in a creative industry or cultural sector.
