The MA in Linguistics offers an in-depth theoretical and methodological grounding in general linguistics, the structural analysis of language and the physical analysis of speech sounds. It provides a solid theoretical basis in the core areas of syntax, phonetics and phonology, in a way which enables students to engage with work in these areas at the frontiers of the subject. Optional modules allow further exploration of theories and methods in the areas of language development, sociolinguistics and discourse studies. Students will be trained in research methods and in the associated skills to plan, execute and write up an independent research project of their choice in a chosen subdiscipline of Linguistics.
