This module introduces the theory and practice of technology enhanced language learning. Students learn about the theories underpinning technology enhanced learning and connect this to practice. The module includes opportunities to experience a variety of digital tools for language learning and teaching. Pre-sessional self-learning activities, followed by seminars and study group activities
The module aims to:
- Develop students’ knowledge and capabilities which demonstrate a critical analysis and understanding of how digital technologies may be used to support language learning and teaching
- Develop students’ understanding of the context in which technology-enhanced language learning and teaching is located including alternative perspectives and practices and their implications
- Enable students develop and apply novel approaches in the design and evaluation of materials and assessments using digital technologies for language learning, teaching and assessment.
On successful completion of the module, you will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
LO1: You will apply theoretical perspectives underpinning the use of technology for language learning and teaching to justify your design.
LO2: You will use knowledge of a range of digital tools that may be used to support language learning and teaching to design learning activities.

On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
1. Communicate relevant theoretical and practice applications through critical thinking and skilful use of language.
2. Develop digital skills to use a wide range of digital tools and resources in your future teaching with justified decision-making
3. Reflect upon your knowledge and assessment and transfer the skills to your future teaching practice
4. Collaborate with your peers to develop technology-assisted learning materials and apply the experience to your assessment and future teacher practice
