1. Understand and demonstrate coherent and detailed subject knowledge and professional competencies some of which will be informed by recent research/scholarship in sonography
2. Explain a range of scientific principles relevant to more complex areas of sonography and their application in clinical practice;

Competence Standards
1.Perform ultrasound scans for general medical, gynaecological and obstetric examinations, safely operating the ultrasound machine controls and effectively manipulating the ultrasound probe simultaneously, demonstrating high levels of dexterity.
2.Differentiate, evaluate and report ultrasound appearances of anatomy during and after the ultrasound examination.
3.Demonstrate high levels of verbal, listening and written communication skills, responding effectively to service user, carer and medical professionals.
4.Assess situations to enable response and effective interaction with service users and multi-disciplinary teams; advocating and safeguarding individuals across the life-span.
5.Organise and carry out ultrasound lists/workload as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:
1. demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects of sonography;
2. work that draws on a wide variety of material;
3. the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion;
4. evidence of an ability to conduct independent, in depth enquiry within the discipline;
5. work that is typically both evaluative and creative.
