Year 3

Learning outcomes



By the end of Year 3, you will be able to:

1. Consolidate skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
2. Demonstrate a nuanced understanding of the vocabulary, grammar, and registers of Italian, sensitive to regional variations.
3. Build on the experience of cultural immersion in Italy to gain insights into the ways in which cultures interact.
4. Relate general background knowledge about Italian society to lived experience.
5. Pursue specific interests in the cultural and social life of the country of residence.
6. Gain insight into live debates pertaining to social and cultural issues as perceived in the country of residence.

Skills Learning Outcomes

By the end of Year 3, you will be able to:

1. Adapt to living and working or studying in another country.
2. Develop skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility and decision making
3. Acquire inter-personal skills required to operate in a foreign society

Competence Standards
1. Experience immersion into Italian language, culture and society
2. Communicate information in Italian in a variety of ways to a variety of audiences
3. Identify potential sources of primary material of value to a future research project
4. Effectively exercise self-learning, with appropriate support where required

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed (on a Pass/Fail basis) by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes specified for the residence abroad year and will be in line with assessment of the residence abroad year for all other language programmes. This will include: · Language tasks as specified in the module description and as directed by the Residence Abroad Tutor · Submission of a written report demonstrating that the learning outcomes for the year have been met in terms of personal, professional and academic development and the ability to reflect critically on the value of the experience in these areas
