Learning outcomes

1. Apply effectively the theory and practice of public history to real-world problems.
2. Engage significantly with scholarly debates on the past, critically evaluate diverse perspectives, and formulate independent arguments that are historiographically informed.
3. Critically analyse the literary, cultural and socio-historical contexts in which literature is written and read, including literature before 1800.
4. Apply and evaluate key concepts, critical theories and methodologies of literary analysis.

Skills Learning Outcomes

1. Communicate intermediate critical thinking skills through constructing a structured and coherent argument referencing appropriately selected evidence.
2. Interpret and synthesise ideas and scholarship to support opinion, argument and theories.
3. Work with others to produce successful group projects.
4. Manage time and resources well and prioritise work efficiently and productively to meet deadlines.

Assessment

BA English and History uses a combination of different assessment methods to capture the range of ways that students learn on the programme. At Level 2 assessment types across our compulsory and optional modules typically include: digital portfolios, zines, online exhibitions, magazine articles, as well as academic essays, primary source essays, and online exams.
