Learning outcomes

On completion of the year / programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- demonstrate in-depth, specialist knowledge and mastery of techniques relevant to exercise and rehabilitation and/or to demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of concepts, information and techniques at the forefront of the sport, exercise and rehabilitation;
- demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of techniques applicable to their own research or advanced scholarship;
- take a proactive and self-reflective role in working and to develop professional relationships with others;
- proactively to formulate ideas and hypotheses and to develop, implement and execute plans by which to evaluate these;
- critically and creatively evaluate current issues, research and advanced scholarship in the sport, exercise and rehabilitation.
- completed a research project demonstrating competent use of a range of practical research techniques applicable to their topic area.


1.Critique, evaluate and synthesise hypotheses and research within Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation making use of a variety of sources.
2.Effectively apply advanced theoretical and practical knowledge to address problems in Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation.
3.Effectively communicate to a variety of audiences, through, for example, written and oral means, scientific, technical and mathematical concepts, making use of equations, illustrations, figures and references as appropriate to Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation.
4.Demonstrate advanced knowledge and application of scientific, technical and mathematical skills in Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation relevant to pure and applied research in academia, industry and health care environment with support as appropriate.
5.Collect, process, analyse, interpret and effectively communicate data (including numerical, non-numerical and visual data), using advanced techniques and tools, and form logical, reasonable conclusions and make sound recommendations.
6.Effectively follow, troubleshoot and develop practical experimental protocols as appropriate to Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation.
7.Use a range of techniques and apparatus in the laboratory and field environment, as appropriate to Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation, competently and safely, using appropriate support where necessary.
8.Design, plan and undertake a research project.
9.Demonstrate environmental consideration and work within ethical frameworks in a variety of settings as related to Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation.
10.Effectively collaborate as a member of a team working on a shared task relevant to Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation with appropriate support where required, which could include working with partners from a range of sectors including academia, industry and policy.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will acquire the following transferable skills:
- the skills necessary to undertake a higher research degree and/or for employment in a higher capacity in industry or area of professional practice;
- evaluating their own achievement and that of others;
- self direction and effective decision making in complex and unpredictable situations;
- independent learning and the ability to work in a way which ensures continuing professional development;
- critically to engage in the development of professional/disciplinary boundaries and norms.

Assessment

Achievement for the degree of Master (taught programme) will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:
- evidencing an ability to conduct independent in-depth enquiry within the discipline;
- demonstrating the ability to apply breadth and/or depth of knowledge to a complex specialist area;
- drawing on a range of perspectives on an area of study;
- evaluating and criticising received opinion;
- making reasoned judgements whilst understanding the limitations on judgements made in the absence of complete data.
