Competence Standards
1. Identify, explain, and evaluate debates, concepts, and principles which are features of the study of Classics and Ancient History.
2. Design and demonstrate an independent and self-guided research project with evidence-based arguments, that engage with scholarly debates in Classics and Ancient History, with appropriate support where necessary.
3. Effectively communicate research findings clearly and accurately in a range of formats appropriate to postgraduate-level study, with appropriate support where necessary.
Assessment across the programme uses a range of methods aligned with the learning outcomes, including research essays, source analyses and commentaries, oral presentations, portfolio or placement-based outputs, and an extended 60-credit dissertation. These assessments are designed to evaluate advanced skills in independent research, critical analysis, and scholarly communication. Formative feedback is embedded throughout the programme through seminars, workshops, and work-in-progress activities to support students’ academic development and preparation for summative assessment.
