On successful completion of Level 1, students will be able to:

2. Understand and communicate information, events, and ideas on familiar topics in written texts and spoken interactions in French (for post-A level or equivalent learners)
3. Recognise, describe, and use basic vocabulary and grammatical structures in French
4. Recognise and describe some basic social norms and cultural values in texts and contexts where the French language is used
5. Recognise and discuss some significant historical events that have shaped the cultures and societies where the French language is used
6. Apply basic analytical approaches to texts from French-speaking cultures, including written, audiovisual, and digital media

1. Develop simple, well-structured arguments supported by evidence and ideas gathered from a range of sources

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme. These may include essays, commentaries, portfolio, individual and group presentations, creative writing or oral assignments, and exams.
