Learning outcomes

1. Advanced Language Proficiency in Thai: You will attain an advanced level of language proficiency in Thai, allowing you to understand wide-ranging topics, engage in complex conversations, and articulate ideas fluently and accurately.
2. Advanced Translation and Interpretation Skills in Thai: You will translate a wide range of complex texts, including specialised content, effectively handling both formal and informal language alongside different genres with a high degree of accuracy and fluency. You will also demonstrate advanced interpretation skills, interpreting spoken language in various contexts, and adapting your skills to suit various registers and styles.
3. Cross-Disciplinary Understanding in Thai and East Asian Studies: You will develop the ability to draw connections between different disciplines within Thai studies, fostering a holistic and advanced understanding of Thailand's and East Asian’s global significance.
4. Research Skills in Thai and East Asian Studies: You will have honed your research skills to an advanced level, enabling you to conduct an independent piece of extended research, such as a final year project, on multifaceted topics in Thai and East Asian Studies, synthesising information from a diverse range of sources, and constructing original, well-informed, nuanced arguments.

1. Demonstrate effective use of the Thai language to analyse, appraise, and describe information, events, and ideas.
2. Demonstrate understanding of facts, ideas, theories and cultural/societal insights of the regions where Thai is spoken.
3. Demonstrate comprehension to assigned materials and resources in the Thai language.
4. Demonstrate understanding of key facts and ideas in the study of East Asia.
5. Identify, explain, and evaluate debates, concepts, and principles which are features of the study of East Asia.
6. Design and demonstrate an independent and self-guided research project with the appropriate support when required.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include essays, commentaries, portfolio, individual and group presentations, group research projects, oral assignments, and exams.
