Learning outcomes

On completion of the year students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- understand and demonstrate knowledge of a range of specialist aspects of their main and closely related subject areas, especially those relating to the country or region in which the year abroad is spent, and to
- demonstrate understanding of the culture and institutions of the country in which they have studied.

OR

For Horizon Year Abroad Students
On completion of your international year you will:
- have an improved understanding of the culture of another country, reflecting on similarities and differences to your home culture;
- have engaged with a new environment whilst demonstrating attitudes to operate effectively as a global citizen.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to develop and practice:
- communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with people of a different nationality;
- self- resilience;
- personal development planning skills;
- reflective writing skills.

OR

For Horizon Year Abroad Students

- skills of adaptability and cultural flexibility;
- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility and decision making
- enhanced communication skills, using another language (where appropriate).

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed (on a Fail/Pass/Merit/Distinction basis) by a written essay that will reflect on the learning outcomes achieved during the study abroad and which will include a copy of the transcript of the results gained during that year.

The form of assessment will vary depending upon the institution selected for the International year.
