1) Draw on systematic and advanced knowledge of communication and media concepts, theories, and research to make informed contributions to scholarship and debates in media and communication, including public policy discussions.
2) Develop expertise in one or more designated areas of the field, including an understanding of both historic and contemporary research in media and communication.
3) Communicate ideas at an advanced level, including the ability to express complex ideas in a range of contexts related to media and communication.
4) Critically analyse and explain media content such as texts and images at an advanced level, drawing on a range of advanced concepts, theories, and research.
Skills Learning Outcomes
1) Communication skills: the ability to communicate your ideas clearly for multiple audiences, contexts, and situations, and to demonstrate understanding of historical and contemporary ideas in communication and media studies through oral, auditory, and visual language.
2) Critical thinking skills: the ability to gather information from a range of academic and non-academic sources relevant to communication and media studies, and to weigh up arguments from relevant concepts, theories, research, and ideas related to communication/media and society.
3) Academic research skills: the ability to conduct an independent empirical research project, using appropriate communication research methods and showcasing an awareness and criticality of the ethical dimensions of the project.

The core component at this level is the dissertation, which is a substantial 10,000-12,000 word independent research project. Other forms of assessment at Level 3 are largely dependent on the optional modules chosen but can comprise of essays, literature reviews, group presentations.
