Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:

- understand and demonstrate coherent and detailed subject knowledge and professional competencies some of which will be informed by recent research/scholarship in philosophy, HPS and psychology;
- deploy accurately standard techniques of analysis and enquiry within philosophy, HPS and psychology;
- demonstrate a conceptual understanding which enables the development and sustaining of both philosophical and psychological arguments;
- describe and comment on particular aspects of recent research and/or scholarship on the the nature of mind;
- appreciate the uncertainty, ambiguity and limitations of knowledge in philosophy, HPS and psychology;
- make appropriate use of scholarly reviews and primary sources pertaining to the mind;
- apply their knowledge and understanding in order to initiate and carry out an independent study or applied philosophy project in Philosophy or HPS;
- conform to professional boundaries and norms where applicable.

Competence Standards
1. Effectively communicate key concepts, theories, and problems from across the three Philosophy, Psychology and Scientific Thought disciplines.
2. Apply acquired knowledge from each of the three Philosophy, Psychology and Scientific Thought disciplines to address novel problems that have not previously been explored
3. Conduct an independent research project in the field of Philosophy, Psychology, and Scientific Thought, with appropriate support where required
4. Demonstrate a capacity to bring together ideas in Philosophy, Psychology and Scientific Thought
5.Effectively construct arguments in each of the three disciplines
6. Conduct an independent research project in the study of religion, with appropriate support where required

7. Demonstrate ability to direct, monitor and evaluate their work, by seeking/accepting feedback, within a workplace context, using appropriate support as necessary.
8. Demonstrate an awareness of own strengths and development needs and the need for ongoing learning and proactive continuing professional development.

9. Collaborate effectively with other people in a new environment and successfully completes a period of work or study in another country.
10. Demonstrate self-awareness relating to personal and academic/professional development through successfully completing a period of work or study in another country.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- the transferable/key/generic skills necessary for employment;
- the exercise of initiative and personal responsibility;
- the deployment of decision making skills in complex and unpredictable situations;
- the communication of information, ideas, problems and solutions in a variety of ways to audiences in the three disciplines of philosophy, HPS and psychology;
- the ability to undertake appropriate further training of a professional or equivalent nature.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:

- demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects of philosophy, HPS and psychology
- work that draws on a wide variety of material relating to the mind
- the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion in scholarship concerning the mind
- evidence of an ability to conduct independent, in depth enquiry through the Final Year Project
- work that is typically both evaluative and creative.
