On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:
employ the main methods of philosophical, theological and sociological enquiry presented and consolidated within the core modules and critically evaluate the appropriateness of different methods of enquiry;
demonstrate understanding and interpretation of texts from a variety of traditions and disciplines within Religious Studies, critically and with empathy and, where appropriate and desired, linguistic and text-critical skills;
demonstrate understanding of a wider range of concepts, theories and arguments in philosophy
effectively communicate information, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms, with accurate referencing and clarity of expression;
demonstrate the ability to see connections between some different areas of philosophy, ethics and religion.
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:
Qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment (Communication both written and verbal, Problem solving, Decision making, Ability to assess arguments, Ability to evaluate competing interpretations, Ability to construct and defend their own view, Ability to work with others, and Use of IT);
Skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility (Learning to Learn, Ability to organise time and submit work to deadlines, Awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses).
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:
demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects/competencies appropriate to each of the disciplines in a range of instances, including novel or atypical instances;
work that is often descriptive in nature but drawing on a wide variety of material;
the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion.
