Learning outcomes

Level 2

On successful completion of Level 2, students will be able to:
Subject Specific Learning Outcomes

1. Understand and communicate information, events, and ideas on familiar topics in written texts and spoken
interactions in the target language (for beginners)
2. Understand and communicate information, events, and ideas on a range of topics in extended written texts
and sustained spoken interactions (for post-A level or equivalent learners)
3. Identify, explain, and apply vocabulary and grammatical structures in the target language
4. Identify and critically engage with a range of social norms and cultural values in texts and contexts where the
target language is used
5. Identify and critically examine significant historical events that have shaped the cultures and societies where
the target language is used
6. Combine and apply a range of analytical approaches to texts from the target cultures, including written,
audiovisual, and digital media

1. Develop well-structured arguments of some complexity that are supported by evidence and ideas
independently gathered from a range of sources
2. Demonstrate academic integrity by effectively referencing a range of academic and digital sources and
following academic conventions

Assessment

Students will be working towards the subject specific and skills learning outcomes by engaging with a variety of approaches to assessment, which will depend on the language route and modules that they will take. At Level 1, assessment methods will typically include coursework in English (essays, commentaries) and the target language (short assignments collected in portfolios), individual and group oral presentations in English or the target language, exams in the target language that might include elements of English (for example, translation tasks).
