Learning outcomes

1. Recognise and apply knowledge of the selected academic genres and their structure.
2. Employ Knowledge of the academic conventions used in spoken and written texts, including ethical use of sources, citation, referencing and generative AI.

Skills Learning Outcomes


3. Use spoken and written academic English that suits a clear communicative purpose, including coherent, accurate and fluent use of a wide lexical resource and a range of appropriate structures.
4. Demonstrate a critical and reflective approach to their work and that of others by evaluating it and drawing implications.

Competence Standards
· Effectively evaluate, select and communicate key academic facts, ideas and results in English.
· Effectively use theoretical and practical knowledge in English to respond to academic tasks.
· Effectively apply acquired theoretical and practical knowledge of English to academic study.
· Effectively apply general principles and practices of academic integrity in a Higher Education context.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:
- demonstrating competencies in the language, skills, knowledge and understanding required of a student who is about to enter postgraduate research level study;
- performing effectively in the academic environment of a University through integrated assessment covering all four skills (speaking, writing, reading and listening) required of a SELT.
