On completion of the MSc in Sustainability, Environment and Development, students will be able to:
1- Analyse contemporary development research, policy, and practice using appropriate theories.
2- Critically evaluate diverse perspectives on how social, economic, political, and environmental issues shape development processes in both the global North and South.
3- Critically evaluate interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches to sustainability challenges related to environment and development.
4- Create original research using appropriate methods and skills related to sustainability, environment, and development.
Skills Learning Outcomes
1- Academic writing (academic skills): the ability to communicate effectively in written form to articulate an argument, supported by relevant evidence and adhering to academic convention.
2- Critical thinking (academic skills/sustainability skills): the ability to weigh up different arguments and perspectives, using supporting evidence to form opinions, arguments, theories and ideas.
3- Information searching (academic/sustainability skills): the ability to search for, evaluate and use appropriate and relevant information sources to help strengthen the quality of academic work and research.
4- Effective communication (Sustainability skills): Effectively communicates key facts and ideas, for example, verbally and in written form. Respects and considers the needs and perspectives of others. Engages in interdisciplinary discussion to inform their thinking about sustainable futures.
5- Research (Work ready skills): The ability to access and investigate a variety of sources of information on a subject, in order to provide answers or solutions, expand or provide new knowledge of a topic or subject.
We use a diverse range of assessments that will develop and showcase your skills and abilities. Examples of assessments include academic and professional written work, presentations, rapid evidence reviews, diagramming, policy analyses, and written exams. Additionally, your final Masters research project will be in the form of a journal article with an accompanying dissemination product, the form of which is your choosing.
