On successful completion of the year, students will be able to:
Philosophy and HPS
1. Accurately explain and evaluate philosophical ideas and debates within some of the main areas of the discipline, including philosophy of science, epistemology and metaphysics, philosophy of mind, and normative philosophy.
2. Apply basic historiographical principles and methodologies relating to scientific discovery and progress, especially for the history of psychology.
3. Coherently express their own views about historical and philosophical ideas and debates in the form of a structured and coherent simple argument
Psychology
4. Describe and explain, with appropriate evaluation, basic conceptual knowledge of Cognitive Psychology
5. Describe and explain, with appropriate evaluation, basic conceptual knowledge of either Developmental or Social Psychology
6. Compare and contrast, with evaluation of strengths and limitations, psychological accounts of real-world topics

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules and will include essays, exams, reports, and presentations.
There will be a range of unassessed formative exercises on many modules, allowing students to make progress with the LOs and skills outside an assessment context. Opportunities for explicit discussion and support will be made available by module leaders in student hours and in routine meetings with academic personal tutors.
