On successful completion of the year, you will be able to:

1. Accurately describe basic concepts of philosophical enquiry and of the study of religion, and some of the main theoretical approaches within these academic fields.
2. Accurately explain foundational ideas in normative philosophy (notably moral and political philosophy) and in the study of religion (notably, theology, the social scientific study of religions, the study of religious texts).
3. Develop basic arguments and evaluations concerning some of the main debates in philosophy and the study of religion.

1. Express yourself in a clear, concise, focused, and structured manner (Academic and Work Ready skill).
2. Gather information from a range of sources and produce basic interpretations or summaries of the information (Academic and Work Ready skill).
3. Discuss the arguments of others and construct simple arguments of your own (Academic and Work Ready skill).
4. Identify when, why, and how to appropriately acknowledge someone else’s work and ideas (Academic and Work Ready skill).
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year. You will thus demonstrate that you have fulfilled the programme-level learning outcomes through your successful completion of core and optional modules. Assessments include essays, an exam, text and data analysis, multiple choice questions, a poster, and a presentation.
Core modules and any combination of optional modules will enable you to achieve all the learning outcomes.
You will be provided with a range of unassessed formative exercises, allowing you to make progress with the learning outcomes and skills outside of a summative assessment context. Opportunities for explicit discussion and support will be made available by module leaders in student consultation hours and in routine meetings with academic personal tutors.
