On completion of Level 2 students should have provided evidence of being able to:
1. Demonstrate understanding of key concepts, information, practical competencies and techniques that are standard features of English studies and the study of theatre and performance;
2. Apply generic and subject specific intellectual qualities, e.g. demonstrate sound knowledge of critical terminology;
3. Demonstrate the importance of the literary, cultural and socio-historical contexts in which literature is written and read, including literature before 1800;
4. Apply and evaluate key concepts, critical theories and methodologies of literary analysis;
5. Contribute to the group processes involved in the creation of original work in theatre and performance;
6. Appreciate and evaluate the social, political, and cultural impact of the theatre and performance practices they engage with;
7. Adjust to professional and disciplinary boundaries and demonstrate increased awareness of ethical considerations relating to theatre and performance.
Skills Learning Outcomes
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:
1. Qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment related to the subject areas studied;
2. Skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility (e.g. organisational skills; self-motivation; working to a deadline; punctuality and attendance; awareness of health and safety procedures; awareness of ethics);
3. Ability to interpret and synthesise ideas and scholarship to support opinion, argument and theories;
4. Practical and intellectual skills required to contextualise, evaluate and create original performance work
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:
- Demonstrating the knowledge and application of concepts, information and techniques relevant to English studies, including the ability to construct an argument; research skills; knowledge of English literature; and the ability to engage critically with scholarly work
- Demonstrating the knowledge and application of a broad range of concepts, information and techniques relevant to theatre and performance through group presentation, individual essay, practical performance, work developed on negotiation and liaison with academic staff, peers and external organisations, and reflective logs
- Demonstrating basic professional abilities, skills and competencies in the discipline of theatre and performance.
