Assessment

Achievement is assessed using a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules and the standards of the disciplinary area. Generically, students will be required to demonstrate:
- The knowledge and application of standard concepts, information and techniques relevant to the discipline;
- The ability to construct an argument or respond critically and creatively to set tasks;
- Self-motivation and attention to detail.
For theatre and performance modules, assessment draws on a combination of group practice and independent work, depending on the skills being assessed. Please note, for modules parented by the School of Performance and Cultural Industries (prefaced “PECI”), the assessment of learning outcomes and skills in semester 1 of year 1 adopts a pass/fail approach, to help students transition into the HE environment, and to encourage ambition without the pressure of categorisation into grade boundaries. In semester 2, students are graded categorically, in line with assessment across the rest of the programme.
