MA Education is a flexible programme designed for educators and leaders in education, which will advance and enhance your practice within your own context through a highly personalised programme of taught postgraduate level study. It supports both those who are new to the field of education and wish to develop a strong foundational understanding, and those with prior teaching or educational experience who seek to deepen their professional expertise or prepare for postgraduate research.
The programme offers rigorous and critical engagement across a broad breadth of education, encompassing research, policy, and practice, and preparing you to become a reflective and informed thought leader in education. Through a carefully designed range of core and optional modules, you will explore and interrogate cutting-edge educational research alongside diverse theoretical lenses to deepen your understanding of education in both local and global contexts.
The flexible structure of MA Education enables you to tailor your studies to your own interests and professional goals, selecting optional modules that draw on key research strands in education across the School of Education and the wider University of Leeds. These include Childhood Studies, Climate and Sustainability Education, Creative and Arts-based Education, Digital Education, and Language in Education, allowing you to mix and match these strands to create a personalised pathway.
In semester one, you will study the 30-credit module Foundations of Educational Research. In semester two, you will choose between two 30-credit modules: Foundations of Educational Practice, or Advances of Educational Research. You will also take 60-credits of optional modules – 30-credits in semester one and 30-credits in semester two – selected from a range of options aligned with key research strands of education. In addition, you will be required to complete a 60-credit module Dissertation over the duration of the programme.
