Programme specification

This programme will help you develop the language skills, knowledge and understanding required for postgraduate study in the disciplines of Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). You will study subject specific content to help you develop your language and literacy skill to a level that will enable you to communicate competently and confidently on your chosen postgraduate programme.

The Civil Engineering 10-week pre-sessional programme is designed with input from academics in both the University of Leeds Language Centre and the school of Civil Engineering, allowing language learning to be integrated and built around key types of texts, assignments and learning activities within the content areas. It also allows you to develop a deeper understanding of how disciplinary knowledge and theory are communicated in your own subject.

The 10-week programme is comprised of one 4-week core module, followed by a 6-week module specific to Civil Engineering.

This programme will suit students who do not meet the English language requirements for their chosen post-graduate programme, as well as those who wish to gain a better understanding of the academic language and literacy practices in their area of study.
