Entry requirements

• If your academic programme requires an overall IELTS score of 6.0, you'll need:
  - A minimum overall IELTS score of 5.5
  - No components below 5.5
  
  If your academic programme requires an overall IELTS score of 6.5, you'll need:
  - A minimum overall IELTS score of 6.0
  - One component below 6.0 allowed
  - No components below 5.5
  
  If your academic programme requires an overall IELTS score of 7.0, you'll need:
  - A minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5
  - One component below 6.5 allowed
  - No components below 6.0
  
  If you’ll be studying the International Foundation Year, entry requirements are different.
• If your International Foundation Year requires an overall IELTS score of 5.5, you'll need:
  - A minimum overall IELTS score of 5.5
  - No components below 5.5
• If your International Foundation Year requires an overall IELTS score of 6.0, you'll need:
  - A minimum overall IELTS score of 6.0
  - No components below 5.5
• The minimum age to study on this course is 18. If you want to take the course to prepare for the International Foundation Year, and will be under 18 when the course starts, exceptions can be made on an individual basis. If you have any questions, email langc@leeds.ac.uk

Programme specification

This programme is an English language pre-sessional designed to support students who either do not meet the English language requirements for their chosen undergraduate programme or who wish to gain a better understanding of the academic language and literacy practices to enable them to study at undergraduate level.

This programme will help you develop the language skills, knowledge and understanding required for undergraduate study. You will develop your language and academic study skills to the standard needed to study on one of the below programmes:
- an undergraduate degree
- the International Foundation Year programme
- modules on the Exchange and Study Abroad programme

This programme is also suitable if you need to complete an academic English course as part of your undergraduate degree from your home university. You will learn practical strategies which you can apply in your undergraduate degree. You will use learning resources including academic articles, talks and lectures to enhance your development.
