Programme specification

The MA in Linguistics for English Language Teaching is designed to bridge the divide between linguistic theories and language teaching practices. It provides a solid theoretical basis in linguistics and theories of language development for both teachers and graduates intending to become teachers, in a way which will enable you to see how to apply theoretical ideas in the language classroom and develop expertise for language teaching. The course covers core topics in linguistics and language teaching, and allows further exploration of the areas of language development and use. You will be trained in research methods and in the associated skills to plan, execute and write up an independent research project of your own choice under the guidance of a personal supervisor.
