Programme specification

The MA Digital Media will provide students with a unique blend of new media theory and practice, equipping them with the necessary skills for future work or research in the field of new media. The programme aims to develop critical thinking, creative and technical skills in relation to new media. The programme offers the combination of an in-depth understanding of new media and its role in social, cultural and economic life with the further development of existing, practical new media design and production skills (such as visual, web or interaction design, animation, gaming or advanced database design).

On the MA Digital Media, students will:

- Understand and critique new media as a socio-cultural phenomenon
- Develop understanding of key contemporary issues and debates in relation to new media
- Develop practical production skills in planning, designing, developing and implementing new media systems and solutions
- Have an opportunity to further develop and expand their existing new media portfolios
- Learn to position new media in the context of the creative / cultural industries, and consider the ways in which new media and these industries shape and are shaped by each other.
