The programme sits within the School of Medicine. The School comprises world class researchers and highly experienced clinical and academic staff. Students benefit from being taught by a range of clinical and academic professionals within the School and will learn alongside students from other professions within the School including medicine, radiography and cardiac physiology.
The School comprises a well-established, highly innovative Service User and Carer group. Students on the programme benefit from interactions with members of this group starting at the point of admissions; members contribute to the admissions process via involvement in the Multiple Mini Interviews which are an innovative.
Students develop their clinical skills via both practical sessions which take place in dedicated Cardiac Physiology laboratories, and clinical placements within departments across the Yorkshire and Humber region. Students spend a considerable amount of time in clinical placement starting in their first year and increasing in time in their second and third years. All of our students are trained in departments by highly experienced Work Based Assessors, all of whom are required to obtain a clinical training qualification.
Due to careful negotiation of the timetable, Cardiac Physiology students are able to enjoy an extended summer break not offered by any other university.
In addition to developing knowledge and clinical competence in routine theoretical and clinical Cardiac Physiology, students also have opportunities to study specialist areas of interest within year 3 (Independent Study module and Research Project). The Year 3 student project/research dissertation provides an opportunity for students to identify their own area of interest and further develop this by undertaking a systematic review of the literature, an audit of practice or empirical research. Students are encouraged to present their findings at national conferences and submit their projects of publication in peer reviewed journal where appropriate.

Successful completion of 120 level 1 credits and 120 level 2 credits. Students may be awarded a pass, merit or distinction as per University Ordinances. This award does not entitle recipients to register as a Cardiac Physiologist
