TRAN3040 Physical Distribution and Logistics

This module provides a broad understanding of freight transport and logistics systems from the perspectives of society and the freight industry. It explores all main transport modes, both individually and in combination, to explore how freight moves and the resulting environmental problems. We look at different scales from global, examining freight transport as part of the modern globalised world economy, to local, exploring the issues relating to freight and logistics operations in urban areas.
After completing this module, students will have a broad understanding of freight transport and logistics systems from the perspectives both of society and the freight industry, and across a range of scales from global to local.
                            
                            On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject: 
LO1 Students will develop an understanding of how freight transport and logistics systems operate 
LO2 Students will develop skills in  evaluating freight transport and logistics systems and the problems associated with them, with a focus on analysis of environmental problems  
LO3 Students will develop skills in developing and evaluating potential solutions to such problems.
