On completion of the module students will be able to;
- apply and develop knowledge and skills from previous levels;
- discuss key contemporary issues in exercise physiology;
- critically evaluate chosen key issues;
- critically analyse the literature pertinent to chosen key issues;
- understand the relevance of the contemporary issues to sport and exercise science.
This module will run as a series of four lectures and tutorials on separate contemporary issues in basic and applied exercise physiology.
These might include:
- Control of muscle oxygen consumption
- Plasticity of muscle fibre types and implications for performance
- Cardiac hypertrophy and exercise adaptation
- Cardiovascular and pulmonary limitations to performance
- Genetics of human performance
- Exercise and treatment of neural dysfunction
- The female athlete triad
