In this module students will reinforce and improve their grammatical knowledge and accuracy, both in spoken and written Spanish, and will develop the skills involved in aural and reading comprehension, in accordance with C1- C2 CEFR. Students will reflect on the use of language and learn how to use language in formal and professional contexts. The topics covered will include social and cultural issues relevant to understanding the Spanish-speaking world.
This module aims to consolidate and develop students’ Spanish language skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing, focussing in particular on grammar in context and the usage of grammar in authentic communicative situations according to different contexts and registers, enhancing students’ language awareness. The aims and objectives will be achieved through the provision of weekly languages classes targeted at linguistic accuracy and fluency, and by engaging students with authentic Spanish-language materials that engage culturally relevant topics in the Spanish-speaking world.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject: 1. Produce clear, well-structured, detailed texts in Spanish on complex subjects, using a range of language registers as appropriate to the communicative context 2. Understand a wide range of specialised and complex written texts in Spanish 3. Understand spoken discourse on specialised and complex topics in Spanish 4. Express themselves clearly and coherently in Spanish in oral form, using a range of language registers as appropriate to the communicative context. 5. Critically evaluate and synthetise complex information and ideas from a wide range of sources 6. Develop as well-structured and sustained argument that is evidence-based and informed by relevant debates

Written and oral feedback will be given regularly to students to identify and address any difficulties at an early stage: · Students will receive formative feedback from the tutor of their oral and written production during language classes. · Students will receive formative feedback from the tutor on written tasks set as homework. · Students will have some self-assessed homework, which will be set by the tutor. Answers for those pieces of homework will be available on Minerva. Students will receive written feedback on all pieces of assessed work.
