Module summary

This module is aimed at students with a consolidated A2 level in Russian on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It will further develop all four skills—speaking, listening, reading and writing—while broadening grammatical, lexical and cultural knowledge. Students will engage in everyday interactions, express opinions with increasing nuance, and understand short authentic materials. By the end of the module, students will have strengthened their competence to A2+ and be well prepared to progress towards B1. Some students may begin to demonstrate selected B1 features.

Objectives

On completion of this module, students should be able to:

- engage students with authentic language materials relevant to life in the Russian-speaking world.
- consolidate and improve their grammatical knowledge and accuracy
- broaden students’ vocabulary in a variety of specialised areas
- further develop students’ written and oral communication skills in Russian

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will be able to:

1. Understand the main points of clearly written texts on everyday topics or topics of personal interest 2. Produce simple connected texts on everyday topics or topics of personal interest with sufficient accuracy for successful communication with readers.
3. Participate actively in conversations with other speakers on everyday topics and topics of personal interest
4. Identify and discuss social norms in a variety of everyday contexts where the target language is used, demonstrating intercultural awareness.
5. Communicate clearly and effectively, adapting your communication strategy to a variety of everyday contexts

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Regular progress will be monitored through students’ engagement with formative activities set on Minerva or through a textbook ahead of each class. Students will receive formative feedback throughout the module to consolidate their learning, prepare for assessments, and encourage autonomous language development.
