This module will introduce the foundational concepts and skills needed as a student on the Global Creative Industries programme. It will introduce the practice of research and scholarship at the University of Leeds, and introduce reflective learning as an important practice. It will feature a combination of online materials, lectures and workshop sessions.
This module aims to ensure the smooth transition between prior learning experiences and University-level study, and introduce the opportunities of research-led teaching. It will ensure that you will develop skills for independent and reflective learning that will be an essential element of your experience on the Global Creative Industries programme, and for a variety of future careers throughout cultural and creative sectors.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the particular opportunities and challenges of studying at University-level, including independent learning and research-led teaching.
2. Utilise a range of research resources and tools to make effective judgements.
3. Identify, locate and evaluate the quality of different research materials that are appropriate to different research and study tasks.
4. Demonstrate an awareness of their strengths and weaknesses as a learner and an understanding of strategies for effective learning.

1. Recognise and express knowledge and understanding and how it relates to personal experience and to demonstrate learning and growth from the experience.

Using multiple assessment points will enable students to receive feedback on a regular basis. Two small group tutorials will focus on feedback and areas of development. In these sessions, students will share and discuss their plans for each component, providing the opportunity for formative feedback from module staff and peers. Workshops and seminars will provide additional opportunity for formative feedback.
