Module summary

Countries around the world are preparing for and responding to the impacts of climate change, global outbreaks and conflicts on health systems and services. This introductory module establishes a foundation in global public health by providing an overview of core concepts and contemporary debates about key global health challenges and proposed strategies to address them. By exploring current issues, such as communicable and non-communicable diseases, sexual and reproductive health, antimicrobial resistance and the emergence of artificial intelligence, students will recognise how various social, economic and political determinants of health can impact on the prevalence of disease and responses to them, including One Health approaches, health promotion, and health policy. This is a non-clinical module that introduces core concepts and values in the field of global public health, including gender, equity and social justice approaches to addressing current and emerging global health challenges.
