This module is not approved as a discovery module
This module allows students to develop their performance skills. Individual instrumental or vocal lessons, combined with performance classes and lectures, will support repertoire building, the enhancement of interpretative, technical and presentational skills, and an awareness of a range of performance-related issues. Students will also be encouraged to hone their peer reviewing abilities as well as an awareness of their own development as a performer. Please note this is an optional module and runs subject to enrolments. If a low number of students choose this module, then the module may not run and you may be asked to choose another module.
The module aims to instil in students a progressive deepening of intellectual and emotional musicianship alongside the development of performance skills and instrumental/vocal technique, through the performance of a range of repertoire. Students will develop their abilities in aural awareness along with specific skills such as improvisation (where appropriate to the instrument and genre pursued), as well as an understanding of stagecraft and communication skills. The module also aims to develop students’ critical skills in self- and peer-assessment, organisational and planning skills for performance, and in considering appropriate contexts in which their performances might be best understood.
On successful completion of the module students will:
1. Plan, prepare, and deliver a range of instrumental and/or vocal music
2. Demonstrate an accomplished level of technical ability and interpretative skill appropriate to chosen musical style(s)
3. Contribute to self- and peer-appraisal
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will:
4. Find solutions to technical and interpretative challenges in performance
5. Display developed skills in communication of structure and style
6. Demonstrate an awareness of performance presentational skills
Details of the syllabus will be provided on the Minerva organisation (or equivalent) for the module.

Students are encouraged to reflect on their own performances as well as the performances of others and to implement this feedback through their practice and performance. A formative performance exam, on which feedback is provided, will be held in the Semester 1 exam period. Students will also be expected to self-assess this exam.
