MATH3001 Project in Mathematics
This module is not approved as a discovery module
Module summary
Students will receive training in research skills and will conduct an independent research project in a topic in mathematics. Students will meet in groups to discuss the project topic with a supervisor, with each student researching a specific aspect of the topic and producing individual project outputs. Students will present their work orally and in writing.
Objectives
Through lectures, group discussions, and supervisions, students will develop and refine their independent research practice in a specific mathematical topic, and, depending on the project chosen, gain experience in applying different tools. By completing several milestones, they get practice communicating their findings in different forms.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
Access, use and link together various mathematical resources independently.
Demonstrate understand how mathematics can be used in a specific area.
Think critically and creatively from a mathematical perspective.
Communicate mathematics in the appropriate language and
Apply technical and/or digital tools to carry out a mathematical investigation.
