“Soft” skills including team working, cultural sensitivity, ethical awareness and effective communication are required to be an effective data scientist. You will explore these skills in this module through a series of case studies on the actual practice of analytics.
The module will focus on developing the “soft” skills required to be an effective data scientist including team working, cultural sensitivity, ethical awareness, and effective communication.
Learning Outcomes - Knowledge/Application
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
1. Identify and discuss cultural factors involved in data analysis in global organisations
2. Identify and discuss ethical issues involved in the use of data
3. Describe and evaluate specific case studies of the actual practice of data analytics

Student progress will be monitored principally by seminar performance. Selected seminar assignments will be submitted in advance and marked to provide feedback on student progress.

Group project will require a 15-minute presentation focusing on the ethical and cultural issues involved in the use of data analytics in organisations that operate globally. The assessment will be based equally on the actual presentation and the supporting documentation (i.e. slides and notes). The project assessment will be for the group as a whole supplemented by the standard Faculty procedure for marks to reflect group member evaluations of individual contributions.
