This unique module provides an opportunity to learn about business analytics, taught from both British and American universities. Students will learn about the key methods used for business analytics and gain practical experience in using them. There will be various cultural activities and opportunities to hear from guest speakers working in industry. The module starts with a compulsory induction week which outlines how this unique module will work. The business analytics content is then taught online over 6 weeks, 3 weeks taught by the University of Leeds and 3 weeks taught by the University of Kentucky. The cultural activities take place on campus over 2 weeks, one week in Leeds and the other week at the University of Kentucky. Travel will be required to take part in this module.
This module aims to give students an introduction to the theory and practice of business analytics from British and American perspectives. The module is jointly taught by the University of Leeds and the University of Kentucky. Students will learn to analyse data, create visualisations and share their findings to diverse audiences. Students will be required to participate in cultural activities and hear from guest speakers from both British and American industries.
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the role of business analytics in an evidence-based approach.
- Develop a familiarity with the applications of business analytics.
- Demonstrate an understanding and ability to utilise key methods employed in business analytic approaches to problem solving, including methods for testing relationships, clustering, visualizing data and forecasting time series data.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the cultural diversity or subtle differences in style and substance of working in Kentucky.

After each introductory lecture session students are expected to prepare in their own time for the practical activities in the subsequent linked practicals. Students will also undertake private study and independent learning through exploring provided reading material, online materials, and other materials as directed by the module team. This private study and independent learning will support the student learning in the online classroom.
