Module summary

Have you ever wondered why leaders behave in the way they do? Think you are not leadership material? If so then this module is for you. The aim of this module is not about turning you into a leader, although it will support those who aspire to move to more senior leadership positions, but about broadening your understanding of leader behaviour particularly when faced with change. Change is a constant in all organisations, but probably more so in education & community settings, so this module provides the opportunity to explore contemporary changes & identify proactive & positive ways of introducing & embedding successful change. Key to being a successful leader is the ability to recognise the importance of involvement of all staff so we will be looking at some more recent leadership styles such as collaborative & distributed. We will also explore the idea of leader identity - are you a leader because your role says you are, are you a leader because others think you are, can anyone become a leader? No experience of leadership is necessary to take this module only some experience of an education and/or community setting & a willingness to be open-minded about the term 'leader'.
