Operations management explores the way in which an organisation efficiently deploys resources in order to produce goods and services. The module will introduce you to real operational issues experienced by organisations and help you to develop and understanding of how these can be effectively addressed. You will engage in developing your digital skills by researching for your assignments as well as preparing for tasks before face to face sessions and through interaction with other students online.
The objectives of the module are to enable you to:
1. Describe the role of Operations Managers and explain importance of Operations Management, in both manufacturing and service industries.
2. Analyse operations designs and evaluate the performance of operations.
3. Apply the techniques and tools employed to solve contemporary operations problems.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Critically evaluate different operations management philosophies from a theoretical perspective.
2.Apply operations management tools and techniques to solve practical business problems.
3. Analyse an organisation’s operations by applying theories and models of operations management.
Skills Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
1. Develop critical thinking skills through the use of creative problem-solving and decision-making for operational improvement [Academic]

Through tutorials, monitoring of student contributions, formative feedback and staged submission of coursework. Drafts can be submitted in line with tutor deadlines. Peer feedback on in-class activities and online discussion.
