Module summary

This module will provide you with an introduction to entrepreneurship and enterprise. You will develop an understanding of contemporary forms of enterprise and explore the core components of creativity and innovation. You will investigate different types of entrepreneurs, evaluate the impact of the entrepreneurial context and get hands-on experience of the initial phases of the entrepreneurial process.

Objectives

The objectives of the module are to enable you to:
1. Develop an understanding of the concepts, theories, and processes of entrepreneurship and enterprise.
2. Develop a critical understanding of contemporary types of entrepreneurship.
3. Analyse how entrepreneurship theories relate to practice.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Analyse the phenomenon of entrepreneurship and a range of contemporary types of entrepreneurs.
2. Analyse the variables that affect entrepreneurial ventures and the impact of enterprises on society.
3. Apply the tools and techniques of the process of innovation.
4. Critically evaluate the processes of creating and launching a new product or service.

Skills Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
1. Develop critical awareness skills and apply those to analysing a complex entrepreneurial environment (Academic skills)
2. Develop and act on creative business ideas (Enterprise skills)
3. Exercise innovative and creative thinking and present those in a collaborative environment (Work ready skills)

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Through tutorials, monitoring of student contributions, formative feedback and staged submission of coursework. Drafts can be submitted in line with tutor deadlines. Peer feedback on in-class activities and online discussion.
