This module will provide you with a comprehensive outline of the economic approach to problem-solving and analysis. You will develop an understanding of core micro and macro-economic principles by exploring how these could be used in a business environment to interpret economic behaviour and aid decision making. You will apply a critical and evaluative approach to the choices made by individual consumers, firms and government policymakers.
The objectives of the module are to enable you to:
1. Apply an economic analysis to individual and organisational activities and decision making.
2. Analyse, interpret, and discuss the role of the government and the impact of government policy on business activity.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Analyse the components of the microeconomic environment and the links between economic theory and its practical application in business.
2. Evaluate different market structures and the causes of market failure.
3. Analyse the components of the macroeconomic environment and the purpose of macroeconomic policy.
4. Critically evaluate the impact of government policy and intervention on business activity.
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion, students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
1. Ability to find, evaluate, and process economic data to solve problems and make business decisions. (Digital)
2. Ability to interpret complex economic information and problematise economic behaviour. (Sustainability)

Through workshops, monitoring of student contributions, formative feedback and staged submission of coursework. Drafts can be submitted in line with tutor deadlines. Peer feedback on in-class activities and online discussion.
