This module introduces Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility, providing knowledge and skills to understand how businesses address contemporary ethical issues. Using case study examples, it enables classroom discussions, encouraging active participation and drawing on personal experiences. Discussion of firsthand examples is actively encouraged. The module emphasises developing digital skills through pre-session tasks, research, and presentation preparation, enabling confidence in using digital tools for effective engagement and understanding of ethical considerations in the business context.
The objectives of the module are to enable you to:
1. Evaluate how businesses address contemporary ethical challenges.
2. Analyse the theories and practices of business ethics and corporate social responsibility, in national and global contexts.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Explain the ethical issues faced by contemporary organisations
2. Apply appropriate tools and techniques to assess the effectiveness of an organisation's social responsibility policy
3.Identify appropriate recommendations to facilitate the development of ethical and CSR business practices.
Skills Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
1. Identify ethical questions and use ethical frameworks; assess the impacts and ethical effects of actions/decisions in the context of contemporary organisations (Ethical)
2. The ability to apply moral principles that govern a person's behaviour or the conducting of an activity in any given context (Ethics)
3. Working and communicating with others when evaluating the ethical positioning of an organisation (Communication)
4. The ability to deliver effective and engaging oral and visual presentations to a variety of audiences. (Presentation skills).

Through tutorials, monitoring of student contributions, formative feedback and staged submission of coursework. Drafts can be submitted in line with tutor deadlines. Peer feedback on in-class activities and online discussion.
