This module will provide you with a foundation in the theory and practice of HRM allowing you to engage critically with developments in the world of work. It begins with an exploration of HRM and the various theoretical perspectives for examining work before exploring key topics. Students will also develop academic skills including academic and reflective writing, referencing and research, as well as developing professional skills appropriate to working and learning environments.
The objectives of the module are to enable you to:
1. Examine HRM policies and practice and apply theory to practice
2. Evaluate the impact of strategic HRM in an organisational context
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
LO 1 - Evaluate the effectiveness of Workforce Planning techniques.
LO2 - Apply legal and ethical considerations to organisational HRM procedures.
LO3 - Analyse techniques for effectively managing employee relations.
LO4 - Examine the impact of inclusive HRM practices on employee engagement and satisfaction.
Skills Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
1. Teamwork/Collaboration - The ability to build positive relationships with other people when evaluating best practice within a HRM context
2. Ethics - Identify ethical questions and use ethical frameworks in relation to recruitment and selection.
3. Presentation skills - the ability to deliver effective and engaging oral and visual presentations to a variety of audiences
4. Academic writing - the ability to write in a clear, concise, focused and structured manner that is supported by relevant evidence.

Through tutorials, monitoring of student contributions, formative feedback and staged submission of coursework. Drafts can be submitted in line with tutor deadlines. Peer feedback on in-class activities and online discussion
